The butterfly effect was the main inspiration behind this work. It is a concept from chaos theory that suggests small, seemingly insignificant actions or events can lead to significant and unpredictable consequences. The term comes from the idea that the flap of a butterfly’s wings in one part of the world could, through a chain of events, influence weather patterns in another part of the world. It highlights the sensitivity of complex systems to initial conditions.
The title Chrysalis reflects a similar process of transformation and evolution. Just as a butterfly undergoes a profound change within the chrysalis, this choreography explores how small, individual movements, seemingly isolated, can combine and evolve into something larger and more interconnected. The dancers, represent distinct entities that must navigate their own personal space before converging into a unified whole, mirroring the delicate and often unpredictable nature of change. This work is the first creation brought to the stage, experimenting with the interaction between four dancers while maintaining the safety distance required by COVID restrictions.
